The Rockies are unbelievable. We explored the Niwot Ridge tundra plateau, speckled with wildflowers of every shape and color, looked down on the layered blue mountain ranges below, while snow-tipped peaks gazed at us from still-greater heights. They are probably Grus canadensis tabida, or "Greater Sandhills," and part of the Rocky Mountain population.
