They are probably Grus canadensis tabida, or "Greater Sandhills," and part of the Rocky Mountain population. In the winter, opportunities for snowshoeing, skiing, and sledding draw all levels of explorers. If you're in the western part of the park, visit Grand Lake. The Experience: If Aspen isn't quite your mountain town scene, head to Vail instead.
